Temple Street, Hong Kong
This painting was depicted from a real-life photograph taken by Winnie. Temple Street is where Winnie’s father had to travel through to and from work every day. The man on the bike reminds the painter of her father who had given his ‘blood and sweat’ in working to support his family. He is painted in black and white to reflect the lonely, dark and difficult days when Winnie’s father lived alone and worked in Hong Kong in order to support his family in London, in contrast to the colourful background of the vibrant Hong Kong nightlife. However, it was also the vast geographical distance between Hong Kong and London that brought the relationship between Winnie’s father and his family much closer together.
